floating stones by the artist collective ~ in the fields is a sea-based art installation, which was temporarily placed in White Bay, Tarbert (Argyll) in July 2013.
floating stones is made from selected plastic litter, found on beaches throughout Kintyre, Knapdale and Kilmartin. The plastic is arranged like the cup-and-ring marks which are a cultural legacy of the Kilmartin Glen area. Attached to the plastic ring are stones from White Beach in Tarbert which, given the plastic’s buoyancy, float and form an underwater stone circle. The plastic rings also create shadow ring marks onto the ocean floor.

Another version of floating stones is planned to be created in summer 2014.
